December 1999 - Powerline Trail

Trail Rating - 3.5

Trip Leader: Christopher Jones

Photos submitted by Chris Villarreal

This trail is located a couple miles outside of Superior. It featured lots of hill climbing and off camber situations. Near the middle of the run is a rocky sluice rated a 4/5. Two of us decided to try descending the sluice while the rest took the go around.

Here are two views of the upper portion of the sluice. We checked out the entire sluice on foot before deciding to go for it.

Starting from the top

This is Christopher driving down the first section. He's running a spring over w/32" BFG AT's. We planned on staying close in case either one of us needed to be strapped.

On the nerfs

Farther down the sluice.

Somewhere down towards the middle.

Almost done

  Another view

This was the last difficult obstacle. On foot it looked intimidating, in the vehicle it really wasn't bad.

Another view from the bottom.

Lunch stop

this is the group photo we took at the lunch spot.

Here is some of the awesome scenery along this trail. We didn't have time to hike back to Devil's Canyon, maybe next time.
