Special thanks to Mike Warkins for getting the club directions to this little known trail. Dave King and a couple guys headed up north on Friday to get out of the heat in the valley. I came up Saturday afternoon and Mike arrived late Saturday evening. Pyeatt Draw is a large wash that looks to be the main drainage point for the mountainous region NE of Payson, just south of the Mogollon Rim.
In the hills NE of Payson. this trail is located 12 or so miles from Payson, but once you round this hill your out of CB and cell phone service.
Dave found a great camping spot right next to the trail. The ground was covered with pine needles (as opposed to dirt).
Pyeatt Draw is a large wash that looks to be the main drainage point for the mountainous region NE of Payson, just south of the Mogollon Rim. The section where we started didn't look like it had ever been driven. If you continue up the trail from hear and take the first left at the fork in the trail, you will be taken to the first traveled section. We decided to navigate this lower portion first.
The trail was a mix of rock slabs (with sharp edges), and boulders of every size. The rock slabs were very brittle, the sound of breaking china could be heard every time someone broke a piece of rock off one of the bigger ledges.
Ronnie, Mike, Dave and David snaking their way along the first section of trail. I think Dave's wife Kathi was driving up to the later sections of trail.
