November 2002 - President's Choice

Trail Rating - 4.5 (4.0 on my scale)

Trip Leader: Parker Four Wheelers

The cloudy skies gave way to clear blue ones with lots of sunshine on Sunday.  The group for Presidents choice was a little smaller than yesterdays group that ran True Grit with us.

The trail starts as you drop down into the canyons.  The first part is tight and twisty with a couple small hills to climb.

And then you merge into a little rock garden.  The trail follows the wash to the first major obstacle.

Short wheelbase rigs need to take this one at an angle, we watched several rigs try it head on only to get the double whammy effect (double whammy is an obstacle in Moab where all 4 of your tires are trying to climb at once, usually without any success).

Next up is a narrow rock filled notch.  The guys pulled the rocks out the previous rig used.  I aimed for the right side wall and squeezed right through.  If you don't take this line the rock under my drivers side tire will hang up your rear diff.

Randy is a little wider than me and got his front tire wedged under a rock.  When he backed off we noticed his front end wasn't turning.

Not even a whimper, there was no indication that the yoke between his Atlas transfer case and front drive shaft had broken at the welds.   Randy broke out his welder and made a good field repair.
