2 - Presidents Choice
I have been wanting to
go to this event since I first heard about it a year or so ago.
Last year the timing wasn't right but this year I made sure we got
the registration in early and my wife took the weekend off.
Based on what I saw I'd say this is how a 4x4 event should be run
(Jamboree planners listen up). The costs were reasonable, the
camping location was at a private facility with running water, hot
showers and grass, and the event was simple and well organized.

My wife and I would
like to thank Randy and the whole Driven Auto Parts gang and the
Garrel's family for their hospitality. They are a great bunch
to wheel with and good cooks too! We arrived Friday and setup
camp. Nothing like camping in the grass, no dust clouds to
follow you around everything stayed relatively clean.

Early Saturday morning
everyone headed to their staging lanes. There were
approximately 215 vehicles registered for this event. Despite
the number of rigs the trips left orderly and on time with minimal
hassles. Some of the groups left with their rigs on their
trailers for the runs on the California side of the river.

We stopped to air down
just before hitting a warm up wash.

There were a lot of
rigs so the trail got a little cramped at times.

The herd got thinned a
little when an unfortunate wheeler broke an axle going down this
ledge (dana 35). Some of the group stayed behind to help get
him back to camp

The rest of us
bypassed the disabled rig and started into the trail. True
Grit is pretty short , this rock face is one of the first obstacles.
