December 2002 - Annihilator Trail Rating - 5 Trip Leader: BTG Rockcrawlers Photos submitted by Eric Zite My rig was out of action Friday night due to a busted front drive shaft flange, so I hitched a ride out to Annihilator with one of Kong's crew. Scott and Wes working their way up to the big waterfall.
Scott managed to climb the waterfall with a healthy dose of throttle :)
Wes's spring were doing strange things on his attempt. His weekend was over when he lost his brakes, I he rammed his caliper into a rock while trying to back up.
the long wheelbase rigs all climbed the first waterfall with ease.
The second waterfall was pretty brutal. Jack made it up but the waterfall got the better of Scott. While trying to climb it he broke a front leaf spring. At that point the winch came out. Minutes later the other main leaf on the front snapped. Scott carries a main leaf with him and I caught a ride back to my tow rig to get the spare I brought along. I didn't get to see it but heard Chris Geiger orchestrated a complex double winch recovery to get Scott's rig off the waterfall so everyone else could get past.
I believe everyone else made it up without much trouble. |
