July 2002 - Buckeye Hills

Trail Rating - 2

Mike Chatfield and myself did some exploring in the Buckeye hills.  While the maps show most of the land to be BLM I think a lot of it has become private property as we found a lot of gates and fences blocking the way.  Most of the gates and signs were down by the river.  The 2 rating is due to the fact you could bypass everything via the roads (although you may have to backtrack).

The terrain back here is pretty flat with some really sandy washes.  We followed an old road to the base of this neat hill.  It is covered with boulders with a little path that winds thru them up and to the top.  On the left side there is a tailing pile that extends from the top of the hill all the way down to the bottom.

Some of the rocks on the hill.

After following the roads and washes for a while we stumbled upon this rocky section.

We bypassed the hard part so we could continue exploring.  I backed into the notch just to see how I'd fit the next time we come back :)

This waterfall is in the next wash up from Cheap Trick.  It's undercut pretty heavily but might be drivable.

There is a go around to the left of the fall.  Overall there was a lot of driving to get from obstacle to obstacle.  For the most part everything is flat and really dusty.  We went thru several spots which I referred to as a "no wake zone", if you went over 1-2mph you'd raise an incredible dust cloud!
