July 2003 - Alien/Aliens

Avalanche Ranch, Colorado

Trail Rating - 2 Diamonds

On the 4th of July we ran the Alien and Aliens trails as our day run.  They are very similar, a nonstop barrage of vertical climbing obstacles.  These proved even harder than the previous nights climbs on Sidewinder due to the loose dirt on the Alien trails.

The same obstacle, the 3rd picture gives a much better idea of how steep t really was.

Once you were at the top you made a tight 90 degree turn to the left , straddle a small notch, then turn uphill and to the right.

Jack on the same obstacle.

Another large ledge.  You can see where my hood said hello to a tree the previous night, the tree won.

The third climb was on really loose dirt.  I tried crawling it but that wasn't working so a little momentum was in order.  Towards the top on the second or third attempt I lost the inner bead when the a rock got forced into the sidewall.

We finally settled on a line off to the right although it still took some tire spin at points to get climb.
