2004 MLK on the Rocks

January 2004 - Matrix - Page 2

Adam was pretty determined to make the climb after having made a bet with the only other person to have made it.

He was doing good until he backed into the big hole.

Jack was up next, he put on a good show before deciding get some assistance.

These shots are from the spot right after the first waterfall and just before the notch.

Out of room, we had to move forward.  The next obstacle is another waterfall, but this one still had a pool of water at the base of it.  I threw all 100hp at the rock face but it wasn't happening.  On about the 5th attempt I slid to the right and rolled completely over, landing with the passenger side in the water!  We got the rig over fast and had to re-seat the passenger side tire.  I gave it a few more tries before hooking up the winch.

Brian got onto the face and laid into the gas for about 3 minutes until all four tires were pouring smoke to no avail.

Adam did a few full throttle attempts before dumping it over just like I did.

Poor Scott was in the passenger seat and was about a third of the way into the water from head to toe.  At least the water didn't smell to bad :)

We walked back to watch some of the guys working at the notch.  This Bronco was pretty trick with portal axles and rear steer.

The last obstacle before the exit.

Brian popped something in the front end on the last rock, it also took out the u-joint caps.

Once we were out I walked back down the trail to make sure everyone was still going.  By this time everyone was past the notch and just waiting at the water pit.  Jr's Bronco had a coil wire pop off ( At least that was the diagnosis when I walked by).
