Truckfest
Our club was
approached by a friend who works at Daystar about putting on a
rockcrawling display at the Off-Road Adventures Truckfest being put
on by 4 Wheel Parts, Freeway Chevrolet and Earnhardt Ford at I-10
& Ray. 5 truck loads of boulders were hauled in from
someplace north of Lake Pleasant to create a small, rocky
pumpkin patch course for our use. There were also lots
of vendor displays, free food and a monster truck to check out down
by the rock pile.

The event took place
in a dirt lot next to the car dealers. As you can see the
freeway was a stone throw away. The monster truck was clearly
visible from the freeway.

I had never been this
close to a monster truck and was surprised to see this one was
ridden like a giant quad. The driver drives it standing up,
straddling the transmission and is suspended in a diaper like
harness. There is a set of handle bars for steering!

The rock pile with a
bunch rockcrawlers on display.

The goal was to put on
a show so we started to run the pile back and forth.

Jack and Scott.

Pat ran it backwards,
Mark ran it forwards.

Almost on cue, Larry's
old truck rolled over on the first off camber spot. Mark tried
to roll his but it wasn't cooperating.

We made the rock pile
look so easy the event organizers got out the backhoe to rearrange
it in the hopes of making it harder. While we waited we played
on the rti ramp to keep the crowd occupied.

Jack went over like I
did but they had him back over and recovered before I could get my
camera back out.
