Our club had such a
good time in Colorado last year that we decided to go back and do it
again this year. My wife and I left for the Avalanche Ranch on
Thursday afternoon, everybody else headed out early Friday morning.
The trip is a hair over 500 miles from Phoenix, a solid 10 hour
drive taking into account gas stops and traffic. By the time
we reached New Mexico we knew the weather was going to be great, the
temperature dropped steadily as we gained altitude, peaking around
6000 feet.

We arrived at the
ranch around noon and the rest of the club arriving pulled in
between 2-3pm. After setting up camp we decided to run the
trails we ran at night last year during the day this year. With
plenty of daylight left we headed over to Sidewinder.

The trail seemed
totally different during the day. We didn't really have any
problems but then again most of us had four linked suspensions in
the rear unlike last year where the majority of us still had leaf
springs. Tire sizes had also increased, while Mark and I were
still running 37's, Jack now had 40's and Scott borrowed some 42's
for the trip. Tire size really wasn't an issue on this trail
but it made a big difference on some of the trails we ran later in
our trip.

The first casualty of
the trip, Scott broke a shackle bolt. He is planning to change
his shackle design to eliminate this failure point by using a
shackle that flairs out on top. This will allow the shackle to
pivot more side to side without the bolt head taking all the load.

Traction is great here
although there are some spots where a little wheel spin helps like
this ledge.

Scott's rig with the
42's, it looks good....

After dinner we ran
Deuces Wild which was really short and easy so afterwards we started
into Alien.

Messing around on the
first big ledged resulted in my rig on it's lid.

I didn't take too many
pictures as we were moving along pretty fast.
