Thanks
to everyone who showed up to lend a hand for the trail cleanup. In
addition to picking up any trash encountered on the trails (which
wasn't much), Annihilator, Collateral Damage, and Terminator were
partially restored to their original difficulty. In addition, the
oil spots on Annihilator were also cleaned up. Here's a few
pictures my wife took during the event, if you took any you would
like to see posted here forward them to
chris@azrockcrawler.com.

Everybody
gathering at camp on Saturday morning.

Our
club lead the Collateral Damage restoration. We started by
digging out the first 3 hot tubs at the beginning of the
trail. After several hours of digging we made a good dent in
the accumulated sand but the obstacle is still far away from how
hard it used to be. After a lot of digging we decided to try
using the buggies to loosen the sand, here's a video
clip of Jack doing his best excavator impression.

The
first picture shows the top hot tub, we took it down a few feet so
it is harder to navigate again. The second pictures shows the same
spot back in 03. As you can see it was a solid rock bowl.

About
mid trail we also restored the hole at the base of the large
fall. This one got filled in thru mostly natural erosion.

Lastly
we removed the stacked rocks at the base of the fall on the upper
section, this made a nice undercut at the base . It took me a few
tries to find a line that worked. Since there is now a good
undercut you need to start further towards the drivers side to avoid
contact with the ledge. On my first attempt I hit pretty hard with
the rear lower link, putting a slight bow into the solid 2"
diameter 7075 link. Here's a video clip
of the line that worked for me. Pat ended up crawling the bypass,
here's a video clip of his run up the
rocks.

Jay was up next, he
almost made it a few times as he felt the obstacle out (video
clip). By giving it just a little more gas and staying in it he
makes the climb it in this video clip.
