Normally when spring arrives our club hits the road for a road trip which
usually involves a stop in Moab, Utah. This year we all decided to stay
closer to home to conserve money and ended up wheeling in an area of the state
which easily rivals the beauty of Moab thanks to the carpet of flowers and
greenery that covered the desert floor.

After some initial exploring on Friday morning we ran trail which consisted
of several technical crawling sections and a few small waterfalls.

Scott and I both tried this optional line without any success.

The standard line wasn't much easier. I soon learned this is an area where a
little extra belly height is very beneficial. I think my rig sits between
20" and 21" at the skid plate and I was doing a lot of dragging.

After running one trail earlier in the morning, Barry took us on a scenic
tour of the area.

These pictures are a little dark due to the setting sun but you can see the
desert is covered with what looks like a green shag carpet. On the way back both
Scott and Barry peeled off and ran up the first trail we ran this day while the
rest of us headed back to camp. There was talk of sending out a rescue party
after dinner when the pair had not shown up back in camp but then they showed up
on foot with a broken link from Scott's rig in tow. The link was fixable
and a recovery mission was planned for the morning.
