It seemed fitting that the first run in the new summer trail toy was also the
first official run I did in my old Samurai back in early 99. I remember
that trip because I installed a 3" lift kit the day before, other than that the
Samurai was stock. We made all the optional obstacles and despite the Zuk
running hot all day long it was a great trip.

Fast forward 9 years. The trail sees a lot more traffic now and as such
is a bit easier but still just as much fun especially with a windshield, air
conditioning and tunes....

To beat the heat we left the air down spot shortly after 5am which meant I
was up and 3:45 to load the cooler and left the house at 4:15 after strapping my
still sleeping son into his car seat. Joe was leading the group followed by Don
(after just a week in Phoenix after a move from Colorado) and myself.

A few of the optional lines.

Gorgeous scenery.

Just past the midpoint of the trail.

An old water tank that has seen a lot of target practice.

The switchbacks eventually gave way to pine trees. I think the scenery
change starting with the low desert and transitioning to pine trees is one of
the allures of this trail, well that and the great food waiting for you at the
end (we had breakfast at the mill).
