After cutting one of my Maxxis tires last weekend I decided to retire them
after 4 years of service. The rig is now sporting a set of BFG Krawlers. A
small group of us headed up PMF which was going to provide a very nice side by
side comparison of the two different sticky tires since I ran it 2 weeks prior
with the Maxxis tires.

On the first couple of ledges I definitely noticed better lateral traction
with the BFG's. I could also tell I had more ground clearance/ The
new tires measured right at 39" tall at trail pressure (10psi) while the old
Maxxis tires had worn to 36.25" tall at trail pressure (5 psi).

I thought this was a cool shot. There's enough air under the rig to
walk under it and the sidewall/edge of the tire on the drivers side rear is the
only thing holding it up.

At turtle rock we tried taking the rear steer line, Jack nearly made it,
Scott made it and I nearly made it.

Brian managed to rear steer his way up the stretcher while Jack eventually
winched.

Scott managed to drive the stretcher and I almost had it but gave up after a
couple tries. We did notice that even when I was winching the rig was
under a lot of tension as the rear tires tried to climb which eventually stalled
the winch. I popped the front end out of gear and went to rear only which
immediately allowed the rear end to climb.

Further up the trail Jack flopped his rig on it's side on Chilada falls after
trying to back off for another go at it. This was about the only spot I
felt I had an easier time of it with the old Maxxis tires. We'll see how
it goes after the BFG's get broken in as they seem to work best when all the
tread blocks gets rounded off.

Nearing the end of the trail.

At the top.
