Chad needed to break in his new 2009 Jeep Rubicon so we decided to combine a
light duty run with a hiking trip. The destination was the waterfall that
comes off of Horse Thief Basin which after some research looks to be Castle
Creek.

There were 5 of us on this trip representing 3 Jeep models, Jim in his CJ,
Dennis, Udo and myself in our TJ's and Chad in his new JK.

The Castle Creek fall in the distance, our goal was to sit at the base of it.

We started heading up the marked hiking trail.

The trail gained elevation rapidly but it headed up above the falls, not
where we wanted to be.

So we headed back down and took a small trail down to the main wash.
What followed was about a mile of moderate to tough bouldering. There were
three or four spots where we had to skirt deep pools of clear water.

A few waterfalls from the early part of the wash.

Getting closer.

And closer till we made it to the base of the fall and the last climb.

In addition to the turtle we found at the base of the fall we also ran into
some sort of snake in the water and a lot of white frogs.

Once you made it up the last climbable fall you were inside of the bowl at
the base of the Castle Creek fall. Not Jim in the picture which gives you
a good idea of how big this area was.
