Fossil Creek Hike

Last weekend we took Karyn out for a Mother's Day hike to Fossil Creek which is located just outside of Strawberry, Az.

The trail starts out about 5700 feet in high desert and descends down to 4200 feet in roughly 4.6 miles.

Take a left at the sign just over 3 miles in.

Another half mile or so from the sign we found a spring which was gushing water.

At this point it no longer looked like Arizona and more like a rainforest.

Near the old dam there was enough water to swim in at spots.

We explored behind one of the waterfalls and took turns jumping into the hot tub.

You could hear another spring somewhere in the thick undergrowth at this spot.

On the way out we stopped at this pool and took advantage of the rope swing hanging there.

Pat fashioned some "hair" out of some of the local flora.

Near the center of the pool it was about 10 feet deep and crystal clear.

Heading back out. By the time we all made it back up to the parking lot we were all out of water.  Pretty sure everyone had at least 4 bottles each so 2 or 3 more would be better.

Erin got this picture of a the strangest colored lizard we had ever seen.  In the daylight he was almost fluorescent blue which really contrasted against the red rocks.
